TL;DR
- Two very different buyers can sit behind the label “crypto trader.” One cares about execution speed and access, while the other wants portfolio visibility, reporting, and control.
- Context changes intent. Native ads placed alongside content that users are already researching can outperform the same message in broad-awareness environments.
- Educational content isn’t only for beginners. Experienced traders also use it to keep up with tax frameworks, strategies, and changing market narratives.
- Specific pain points beat broad promises. TheCryptoHub.io found that messaging around concrete problems performed better than generic claims such as “Trade better.”
Marketing to “crypto traders” sounds straightforward, but that label covers users with very different priorities. The Crypto-Native Buyer makes this clear. While the Regulated-Access Allocator takes a deliberate, long-term approach focused on portfolio fit, reporting, and trust, the High-Frequency Trader looks for speed, liquidity, access, and immediate opportunities.
TheCryptoHub.io sees the same divide in its own campaigns. Because the platform combines trading, cross-exchange portfolio management, tax reporting, and crypto education, the team can see how these different needs shape the way users respond to marketing.
Their experience reinforces one of the report’s key findings. Even when people use similar crypto products, they won’t necessarily respond to the same campaign. The right message, channel, and landing page depend on what each user is actually looking for.
This conversation is part of our Crypto Audience Perspectives series, based on The Crypto-Native Buyer. Download the full report to explore all five buyer personas and what they reveal about crypto targeting, creative, and media strategy.

Q1: What have you learned about different crypto user types from running campaigns?

Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“We’ve learned that the crypto audience is highly fragmented, requiring drastically different messaging. At TheCryptoHub.io, we generally see two distinct personas: the “Active Trader” focused on execution speed and leverage, and the “Calculated Investor” managing long-term wealth.
The traders respond to creatives that highlight our unified spot, futures, and derivatives trading dashboard. The investors, however, completely ignore trading metrics; their click-throughs are driven by utility, specifically, our real-time portfolio tracking across several exchanges and automated tax reporting. You cannot target both with the same campaign.”
A shared interest in crypto doesn’t translate into shared buying motivations. For TheCryptoHub.io, the difference becomes visible in the features that attract clicks: traders respond to execution capabilities, while investors respond to management tools.
That means segmentation needs to influence more than audience targeting. It should determine what benefit the campaign leads with and what users see after clicking.
Implementation
Split your onboarding flow by declared goal, trading or tracking, not just by signup source.
Q2: What makes a crypto user confident enough to sign up, deposit, or connect a wallet?
Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“Transparency and frictionless utility. Crypto users are hyper-vigilant about security, so explicitly mentioning non-custodial API integrations and secure architecture builds baseline trust. However, the biggest confidence booster is allowing them to experience the platform before committing capital.”
The amount of proof users need rises with the size of the commitment. Reading content is relatively low stakes. Depositing funds or connecting a wallet demands much stronger reassurance.
But trust can disappear just as quickly when an advertiser starts with the wrong assumption about what crypto users actually want.
Implementation
Give users a way to explore the product before asking for a higher-commitment action.
Q3: What should advertisers stop assuming about crypto users?
Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“Advertisers need to stop assuming the entire market is driven by moonshot gains and hype. A massive segment of the audience is maturing and treating crypto as a serious asset class. They are worried about capital preservation, risk management, and tax season. Assuming everyone wants 100x leverage ignores the growing demographic of serious users who simply want professional-grade tools to manage their multi-exchange portfolios and stay compliant.”
The research supports that distinction. The Regulated-Access Allocator approaches crypto as part of a broader portfolio and seeks long-term growth, clean reporting, and a credible product structure. By contrast, the High-Frequency Trader wants speed, liquidity, and access to short-term opportunities.
So if the audience is more mature and more fragmented than the stereotype suggests, the next question is where those different users can actually be reached.
Implementation
Build one campaign line specifically for the “professional tools, not moonshot gains” segment.
Q4: Which channels bring attention, and which ones bring higher-intent users?

Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“Broad crypto news sites and X (formerly Twitter) are excellent for top-of-funnel brand awareness and feature announcements. However, targeted native ads on specific financial tools and high-authority crypto publications (often facilitated through Coinzilla) drive the highest-intent users.
Someone reading a deep dive on crypto tax regulations or DCA strategies is already in a research mindset. If we place an ad for our automated tax center or DCA calculator next to that content, the conversion rate is significantly higher.”
Reach and intent serve different purposes. Broad channels can introduce a product or feature to a larger audience. Contextual placements can capture users closer to a specific need because the surrounding content already reveals what they’re thinking about.
A reader researching crypto taxes, for example, doesn’t need to be convinced that tax management matters. The advertiser can move directly to showing a relevant solution.
Implementation
Place native ads alongside content that matches what the user is already researching.
Q5: Which campaign formats worked best for you, and which elements, such as messaging, targeting, creatives, placements, or landing pages, had the biggest impact on their performance?
Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“Native ads and sponsored articles consistently delivered the highest ROI. Because TheCryptoHub.io is a comprehensive ecosystem, a standard display banner rarely has enough real estate to explain our full value proposition. Sponsored articles allow us to walk through a concrete use case, such as how a user saved hours by automating their tax reporting across different exchanges. Educating the user through content drives a much higher-quality sign-up than a static banner.
We tested everything, but our biggest breakthroughs came from A/B testing landing pages and messaging against specific audience segments. We ran split tests comparing “Execution-focused” landing pages (highlighting the multi-exchange trading and derivatives dashboard) against “Management-focused” pages (highlighting the tax center and portfolio tracking). We found that aligning the creative’s hook directly with the landing page’s specific feature yielded much lower bounce rates than sending all traffic to a generic homepage.”
Two factors stand out here: enough space to explain the use case and continuity after the click.
Sponsored content can demonstrate how a complex product solves a specific problem rather than cramming an entire platform into a single banner. But the format alone isn’t enough. The landing page also needs to deliver on the exact promise that generated the click.
If an ad promotes tax automation, users should land on tax-related content. If it promotes multi-exchange trading, the destination should focus on trading.
Implementation
A/B test landing pages by feature focus and match each page to the campaign hook.
Q6: What surprised you most about crypto users’behavior?
Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“Their willingness to consume deep, educational content. We initially assumed attention spans were too short for anything beyond quick promotional copy. But when we started promoting long-form educational modules from our Crypto Academy, time on page and subsequent platform adoption skyrocketed. If you provide genuine value and help a user understand a complex topic, they feel indebted and are highly likely to adopt your platform as their primary tool.”
Short attention spans don’t necessarily mean users reject long content. They may simply reject content that doesn’t justify their time.
TheCryptoHub.io’s experience suggests that educational material can support acquisition when it answers a real question or helps users solve a complex problem. In that role, content does more than generate traffic: it gives users a reason to spend more time with the brand before making a decision.
Implementation
Don’t gate long-form educational content behind a “beginners only” assumption.
Q7: What would you recommend to another advertiser launching a crypto campaign, both in terms of messaging and creative style?
Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“Focus on friction, not just potential upside. Don’t sell the dream; sell the solution to a specific pain point. For us, that meant pivoting from “Trade better” to “Stop manually tracking your trades across dozens of exchanges.” Identify the exact operational headache your user experiences daily, and make resolving it the focal point of your campaign.
Data-driven and product-focused creatives outperformed all other options by a wide margin. While meme-style ads can occasionally generate cheap clicks, they lead to high bounce rates on our platform. We are a professional-grade web application; showing actual, clean UI snippets of our portfolio tracker or tax center establishes immediate credibility and sets the right expectations before the user even clicks.”
The shift from “Trade better” to a specific pain point makes the value much clearer. Instead of promising a broad benefit, TheCryptoHub.io focuses on a real problem its tools solve, such as managing trades across multiple exchanges and simplifying tax reporting.
The result is a message built around solving daily friction rather than selling a vague promise.
Implementation
Replace broad headlines like “trade smarter” with the specific problem your product solves.
Q8: Were there any assumptions about crypto audiences that turned out to be wrong?
Representative from TheCryptoHub.io
“We initially assumed that experienced traders didn’t need or want educational content. We were completely wrong. Even veteran spot and futures traders regularly engaged with our Crypto Academy to stay updated on new tax frameworks, advanced DCA calculator strategies, and shifting market narratives. The appetite for continuous learning exists across all experience levels in crypto, not just beginners.”
For advertisers, the takeaway is simple. Experience changes what users want to learn, not their desire to keep learning. And that reinforces the interview’s central point: reaching crypto users effectively starts with understanding what they actually need.

Better crypto advertising starts with understanding the person behind the click. Who are you trying to reach, what problem are they trying to solve, and what will give them enough confidence to act?
